NORTH CAROLINA’S WWII EXPERIENCE is the culmination of three years researching hours of archival film footage, hundreds of photographs and countless documents, stories and interviews. In the process, UNC-TV created its own archive of video, photos, veteran stories, and behind-the-scenes commentary that allows you to become a part of this truly North Carolina  experience.

MORE VETERAN STORIES

NORTH CAROLINA’S WWII EXPERIENCE is more than just a documentary. This momentous multi-year initiative sought to connect generations of North Carolinians by capturing and preserving many of the World War II stories and experiences that are such a vital part of our state’s history. During the process, veterans and their families submitted their stories, photos, tributes, and videos, culminating in more than 50 entries from all theaters of the war and most branches of the Armed Services.

VETERAN’S HISTORY PROJECT

NORTH CAROLINA’S WWII EXPERIENCE is as much about storytelling, as it is about North Carolina’s role in World War II. Despite the project’s scope, this UNC-TV original documentary can provide only a small glimpse into the much larger World War II experience of the thousands of North Carolinians who served during times of war. As time goes by, many of these stories are being lost. That’s where you can help.
